Insight for Living is committed to excellence in communicating the truths of Scripture and the person of Jesus Christ in an accurate, clear, and practical manner so that people will come to an understanding of God’s plan for their lives, as well as their significant role as authentic Christians in a needy, hostile, and desperate world.
The primary vehicle to accomplish this mission is a half-hour radio broadcast distributed both domestically and internationally. This program, along with a biblically based counseling service, Bible study guides, books, compact discs, MP3s, and other materials, supports our purpose of communicating biblical truth and its application. We are wholly dedicated to this calling.
In order to accomplish the mission stated above, Insight for Living is made up of many behind-the-scenes support ministries. We’ve chosen some of them to profile below, so you can become more familiar with the different facets of our ministry.
The Insight for Living Biblical Counseling department comprises seminary-trained pastors and women’s counselors who help meet the spiritual needs of Insight for Living’s listeners around the world through biblical counseling and training others for ministry. Our confidential biblical counseling includes a ministry of prayer, comfort, spiritual direction, and instruction to promote growth in Christ. We accomplish that mission by developing educational and counseling content that is fashioned into letters, Web articles, and other printed products. We also offer biblical advice to listeners who call our direct line for phone counseling appointments, and we provide training and consultation for our field pastors and their ministry teams around the world. Our pastor-to-pastor line offers help to pastors, church leaders, and their wives by assisting them with questions on the Bible and its application as well as counseling for personal or professional issues. We also have a specialized ministry specifically to prisoners. Our staff responds to roughly 7,000 phone calls, e-mails, and written letters per year.
A growing number of families today face challenges due to a child or family member who suffers from neurological, behavioral, or developmental disorders. These families require a network of support to help ease the stress of providing ongoing care. We in Special Needs Ministries know that their most significant need is for spiritual truth while enduring seemingly endless and impossible grief-producing trials. Our ministry extends to these families help and hope, as well as the practical, daily application of God’s Word. Jesus is our perfect example of one who honored weakness and vulnerability rather than conquering strength and invincibility. He remained surrendered to His Father’s will instead of demanding life to be on His terms. Our department exists for those facing challenges greater than they expected or desired. If you need this special care, please contact us through the Pastoral Ministries department.
Insight for Living strives to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ around the world to spiritually hungry people in languages and cultural contexts they can understand. To accomplish this, we work with theologically trained field pastors as well as Dallas Theological Seminary graduates and international student interns, who represent more than 40 languages. In addition to translating the message in an accurate, clear, and practical manner, our field pastors also provide their listeners with counseling and other services. Today Insight for Living can be heard in seven of the world’s top ten languages. And in addition to traditional radio broadcasting, we use Web streaming, podcasting, and even satellite radio to get the message out. We have active Web sites in Spanish and in Arabic, and we have translated some of Chuck Swindoll’s publications into these languages as well. Visit our international ministries home page to see the languages in which we broadcast and the countries in which an Insight for Living office can be found.
A Christian ministry with an international emphasis must realize what an increasingly powerful ministry tool the Internet has become and will continue to be in the future. We desire to offer our worldwide listeners and supporters instant, round-the-clock, and convenient access to a wide variety of biblical media resources that can only be made available through the Web. Our Web staff seeks to offer you an easily navigable Web site where you can find help on specific issues and questions and where you can access both current and past messages from the Insight for Living broadcast. We also send out timely and relevant e-mail updates to those who have requested them, as well as Chuck Swindoll’s daily devotional. Our Web site is constantly expanding with new products, articles, blogs, and topical sites, so browse through our various pages often.
Paws & Tales
Paws & Tales is the children’s ministry of Insight for Living. We are committed to teaching biblical theology progressively as children grow spiritually. To this end, we are developing ministry resources to assist parents in training their children in the three primary stages of spiritual development: Establishing a biblical worldview (ages 4 to 8); Equipping a child with tools for forming a biblical theology (ages 6 to 10); and Engaging a child in living a Christ-centered life (ages 10 to 14). We also provide resources to parents like the Insight for Parents page on the Insight for Living Web site, which is designed to encourage parents to train up a child in the way he or she should go. You will find there a variety of biblically sound resources to help you sharpen your parenting skills and receive the encouragement all parents need, including articles and audio messages by Chuck Swindoll, an interactive blog, podcasts, children’s products, the Paws & Tales radio drama, e-mail updates, and more!
Conferences & Tours
Chuck and Cynthia Swindoll love to meet their faithful listeners and supporters. And Chuck also loves to impart biblical truth to willing hearts. So why not combine the two and add in the fun of adventure and travel? Every year Insight for Living schedules special events such as overseas tours and cruises. These special events, which are open for anyone to enjoy, provide the forum to build and grow relationships with our constituents and offer occasions for meaningful experiences with fellow believers. We in the Special Events department organize these events, as well as any other one-time speaking opportunities in which Chuck participates. Further, we minister to the Insight for Living staff by hosting internal gatherings throughout the year such as holiday lunches and chapels—special times of praise and worship. God calls for His children to come together, and our department seeks to provide such opportunities.
Living Bridge Media
In June 1996, the Insight for Living board of directors voted unanimously to establish an in-house media agency to serve as a liaison between radio stations and the ministry. As a result, Living Bridge Media has become the production, marketing, and syndication arm of Insight for Living. Living Bridge Media also maintains our face-to-face relationships with those who own and operate Christian radio stations. With our state-of-the-art recording studio, we have been able to provide significant financial savings to the ministry and greatly enhance our ability to communicate effectively with listeners. We take Chuck Swindoll’s sermons and incorporate the necessary technical edits into the production of the master recordings. We cut each sermon into two or three broadcasts and use portions of the previous day’s message to recap for the days that follow. The announcements that follow the sermon are also assembled in Living Bridge, and then the entire program is distributed to radio stations worldwide and via the Internet. We also make the retail version of Chuck’s complete messages available in compact disc and MP3 formats.
The Creative Ministries department is responsible for the content of all material published by Insight for Living via print and electronic media. The goal of all of our content is to teach and encourage the spiritual growth of individuals. We ensure that all written communications embody the theology and the ministry-focused priority of Insight for Living, including all teaching material, newsletters, Web content, promotional copy, marketing copy, product descriptions, and direct communications with listeners (with the exception of individual correspondence). Our seminary-trained writers, with the help of our editors, develop spiritually challenging, creative, interesting, and effective Bible study resources that equip churches (pastors, counselors, and teachers) as they equip saints and evangelize the world around them. We also seek to develop culturally relevant material that assists believers in responding to challenges made to the truths of God’s Word.
Other than the Insight for Living radio broadcast, Listener Ministries serves as the main voice and ears of the ministry because this is the department that answers the phones and opens the incoming mail. Every day, our 15 employees receive an average of 300 calls, 700 pieces of mail, and 50 to 100 e-mail inquiries. Our work volume tracks closely with the Insight for Living radio broadcast, with more calls received right after the program ends in major markets, on days with special offers, and on days when certain popular subjects, such as marriage or parenting, are addressed by Chuck Swindoll. Our representatives are well versed in the content of the broadcast, so they can respond to listeners’ questions. We also receive the inquiries made by listeners of the Visión Para Vivir Spanish-language broadcast. We work as a team and uplift one another—as well as our listeners—through constant prayer and encouragement.
